Yes, before you throw anything away, list it on here! People claim all sorts of goods listed on the site for recycling, refurbishing and reuse. An item that is seemingly useless to you may be a lifesaver for someone else.
CAN I DELETE MY LISTING IF IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE?
Yes, just simply contact the Webmaster by e-mail and they will happily take down the listing.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF SOMEONE REQUESTS SOMETHING I’VE LISTED?
Nick’s Handi Closet will provide the necessary information to the borrower to contact you about your listing. If you have registered your item with an email address, the user will send an email to your account citing interest in your item. If no email is provided, you will be contacted by telephone.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NICK’S HANDI CLOSET AND OTHER RECYCLING AND CHARITY SITES?
Nick’s Handi Closet does NOT take possession of any listed items–it allows users to list items they wish to give away, and to request items listed on the site. Nick’s Handi Closet is not an auction; instead, it facilitates the exchange and reuse of goods by allowing anyone in the HMS School community to list equipment. We simply offer an efficient, convenient and structured process for the recycling of excess possessions. You may feel your item is expensive and should be posted with a nominal fee, but even without that, we can all feel gratified that we have helped others in the increasingly populated HMS community.
WILL MY EMAIL ADDRESS BE POSTED ONLINE?
Yes, both your email address and telephone number will be listed next to your item. This way, the interested party may easily and efficiently connect with you.
HOW MUCH IS “TOO MUCH” FOR A NOMINAL FEE?
We understand and acknowledge that some items are quite pricey and to give them up for free is unreasonable. There is no maximum fee for any item, but simply try to remember when posting that the goal is to help those in need, not scam your way into some quick cash.
DOES NICK’ S HANDI CLOSET HAVE A WAREHOUSE?
No. Nick’s Handi Closet facilitates the exchange of merchandise. We never take possession of, or store, any of the items listed.
ARE MY POSTED ITEMS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Nick’s Handi Closet is a equipment exchange service populated by items in the HMS School community, but it is not directly affiliated with the school. As such, listings will not be eligible for tax deductions under the IRS definition of a charitable contribution.
IS THERE A FEE FOR POSTING AN ITEM?
There is no fee for posting an item. In fact, the only fee you may incur on the site is a possible one set by the owner of the desired merchandise.
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER WITH THE SITE TO TAKE PART IN THE EXCHANGE?
Nick’s Handi Closet is not a closed community site and therefore has no direct login interface. All items are posted and retrieved openly.
WHAT SHOULD NOT BE LISTED ON NICK’S HANDI CLOSET?
Please do not list unsanitary or vulgar items, fresh foods, opened or unsealed items such as vitamins, toiletries, food or cleaning fluids. Nick’s Handi Closet reserves the right to de-list or refuse any items which are not appropriate.
